Effective January 1, 2020, FPSC Level 1® certification will be replaced by QAFP™ certification. Candidates for QAFP certification or CFP® certification must complete FP Canada-Approved Core Curriculum
Program courses. Additionally, candidates for CFP certification must complete FP Canada-Approved Advanced Curriculum Program courses.

As an education provider, you may choose to offer education that leads to QAFP certification or CFP certification. There are separate guidelines and approval processes for each education requirement.
All educators must demonstrate how their courses relate to the CFP Professional Competency Profile by providing course learning outcomes and a sampling of financial planning content and assessment items. This ensures a high focus on the practical nature of the competencies as the key driver of learning outcomes.

Completion of FP-Canada Approved Core Curriculum Program courses is a requirement on the path to QAFP certification or CFP certification. These courses reflect the knowledge requirements detailed in the Financial Planning Body of Knowledge.
Completion of FP-Canada Approved Advanced Curriculum Program courses is a requirement on the path to CFP certification. These courses reflect the advanced knowledge requirements for CFP professionals detailed in the Financial Planning Body of Knowledge.
If your education contains both FP Canada-Approved Core Curriculum Program courses and FP Canada-Approved Advanced Curriculum Program courses, you may apply for approval using the Core Curriculum & Advanced Curriculum Programs Application. Approved programs may be marketed to candidates on the path to QAFP certification and CFP certification because they fulfil the Core Curriculum Program requirements for QAFP certification and CFP certification as well as the Advanced Curriculum Program requirements for CFP certification.
Students who hold relevant financial or other professional qualifications, may be eligible to pursue a faster, alternate path to certification.Learn More
