Introduction to Professional Ethics (IPE)

 

Offered by the FP Canada Institute™, the Introduction to Professional Ethics (IPE) course equips CFP® professionals with the requisite foundational knowledge of the ethical obligations owed by all professionals, and the specific application of these obligations to financial planning practice.

IPE teaches students the distinction between integrity-based professional obligations and compliance-based obligations, with emphasis on the financial services landscape. The course introduces the specific professional obligations of CFP® professionals, why they matter and what they mean in practical terms.

Continuing Education Policies

 

Registration

To register for a continuous professional development course, log in to the FP Canada Portal and complete the FP Canada Institute™ Continuing Education Application available on the "My Applications" page.


Getting Started

To start your course(s), log in to the FP Canada Portal and go to your FP Canada Institute continuous professional development dashboard. From there, you can track your progress and choose to start any courses you have purchased. Depending on the course package you purchased, you have the following time-period to start your course(s):

  • Advanced Certificate in 3H Financial Planning – 33 months
  • Skill Based 3H Concentration – 9 months
  • Process Stage Concentration – 5 months
  • Individual Courses – 1 month

Any course(s) that are not started by the deadline will start automatically after the deadline. You will have three (3) months from that date to complete these courses. Refer to the continuous professional development deadlines to see the deadline to start your courses.


Maximum Allowance Time to Complete the Course

Once you start a continuous professional development course, you have three (3) months to complete it. Failure to successfully complete the course requirements and on-the-job practice and reflection exercises within three months of starting, it will result in an “incomplete” record for the course.


Refund Policy

FP Canada Institute continuous professional development course fees are non-refundable.


Repeating Enrolment

Students who do not successfully complete their continuous professional development course within the required timeframe, and who wish to reattempt the course, must re-enrol at the full course fee.
