QAFP® Professional Education Program

QAFP Professional Education Program is a unique program that ensures you are client-ready by helping you understand key behavioral factors that affect client decisions. It offers interactive exercises, real-life scenarios, and tests your knowledge through a live discovery process, giving you a marketplace advantage.

Build behavioural and relationship knowledge and skills

  • Complete the Program and earn the FP Canada Certificate in 3H Financial Planning, recognizing expertise in planning that is Holistic, Human, and Honest.

Program Outline

The QAFP Professional Education Program has seven units, each with a financial planning, human behaviour, and professional responsibility section:

  2. Terms of engagement
  3. Discovery
  4. Analysis
  5. Recommendations and financial plan
  6. Implement recommendations
  7. Monitor and review

The QAFP Professional Education Program is eligible for the following continuing education (CE) credits:

MFDA IIROC
  • Business Conduct, Ethics – 8 CE credits
  • Professional Development – 17 CE credits
  • Compliance – 10 CE credits
  • Professional Development – 20 CE credits

Program Cost

  • $1,200

Program Prerequisites


Registration and Start Date

  • Registration is always open
  • Students must begin program within one month of registration
  • Students who successfully completed FP Canada Institute Technical Education – Fundamentals (including final program assessment) can begin immediately
  • Students who complete their prerequisite education from a provider other than the FP Canada Institute must provide proof of completion of through the Education Dashboard on the FP Canada Portal or email them to FP Canada
    • Documents must be submitted at least 10 business days prior to deadline to start; failure to submit documentation within this time results in withdrawal from the program and a 75% refund of the course fee paid.
    • Students can begin the program as soon as prerequisites are verified.

Time to Complete

  • Program takes an estimated 25 hours to complete
  • Students have five months from the course start date to complete the program
  • A three-month extension can be purchased if more time is required

Program Format

  • Delivered online through the FP Canada Institute Learning Platform
  • Students progress through the program at their own pace
  • Student support available through discussion forums and live, virtual, weekly office hours with a CFP professional

Evaluation Information

  • Student performance is evaluated during the program through two quizzes, three end-of-unit assignments and one discussion assignment
  • Students must also complete a final assessment, which is a scenario-based evaluation composed of two parts: a live, virtual discovery interview and a written financial plan.
  • A recommended schedule (see below) is provided to help students pace their progress. A grade of zero is given for any evaluation that is not submitted by five months from the student’s start date.

Technology Requirements

To complete all elements of the program, the following technology is required:

  • A computer with a sound card and speakers or headphones
  • A high-speed internet connection
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel (macros enabled)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Students can access online learning using a tablet or mobile device. However, students must use a computer to complete each of the program assignments and the final assessment.

Mac Users:  To ensure the assignments and final assessment display and functions correctly, students must install Acrobat Reader for Mac OS, then set Acrobat Reader as the default application for opening PDF documents.

Repeat Enrolment

  • Students who do not successfully complete the QAFP Professional Education Program and wish to reattempt it must re-enrol at the full program fee, subject to continuing to meet prerequisite education requirements.

Withdrawals

  • 75% refund within 20 business days of program start date; however no refunds after any graded component is attempted
  • No refunds 21 or more business days after the program start date
  • The start date is the date students access the program on the FP Canada Institute Learning Platform
