Before you apply for QAFP® certification or CFP® certification, you must report your work experience. Also, submit early if you're applying for a work experience exemption from the postsecondary requirement.

If you have gained your work experience in a financial services company or postsecondary institution, you must provide:

  • an up-to-date resumé that details your work experience with start and end dates
  • a letter signed by your current or most recent supervisor with:

If you are an independent financial planner affiliated with a financial institution or a fee-only planner with no financial institution affiliations you must provide:

  • an up-to-date resumé that details your work experience with start and end dates
  • a letter from two personal financial planning clients with:

FP Canada will review the information you provide and verify it qualifies as work experience. You will see an update in the Experience section of your account.

Depending on the nature of your responsibilities and their link to the relevant competency profile, FP Canada may approve all or part of your work experience.
