Larry A. Wood is a tenured professor with University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business, where he teaches corporate governance, ethical decision making and personal finance management. An educator whose career spans nearly four decades, Larry has made significant contributions towards raising the standard of financial planning in Canada. Larry played an instrumental role in establishing the FP Canada-certified education program at the University of Calgary.
A strong advocate for rigorous standards for financial planning, Larry is an FP Canada Fellow since 2011. Wood has been an active member of FP Canada’s disciplinary Hearing Panel since 2014. He has represented Canada at Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) meetings internationally. Wood has also been a member of the FPSB Examinations Working Group and the FPSB Financial Planning and Competency & Practice Working Group, with a view to establishing uniform global standards for CFP professionals.
Larry has authored textbooks, case studies and other written materials used in training financial planners. Wood has won many awards, some of which include the Students Union Teaching Excellence Hall of Fame Award from the University of Calgary (in 2018, 2017, 1997, 1986, 1985), the MBA Society Award from the Haskayne School of Business (2003), and the Alberta Achievement Award (1992, 1989, 1988).
An active member of his community, Larry has been Chairman of the board of the Youth Singers of Calgary, a performing arts organization that offers choirs, classes, and programs for children, teens, and adults.
