FP Canada™ offers two options to write the exam to provide access to people in all parts of Canada. Both options have benefits.

  • In-person candidates do not have to prepare a computer, meet technical requirements, or set up their exam location
  • Online candidates do not have to commute to a test centre, can write from home or another secure location, and select their start time

FP Canada’s exams are available in English and in French, on request. Select your preferred language when you register for the exam. Please note that you can choose to write a French exam online, but ProctorU does not have French-speaking proctors.

1. In-person

If you choose to write your exam in-person, FP Canada offers more than 40 test centres across Canada for the spring and fall certification exams. You’ll find the complete list of test centre locations on the exam registration page in your account.

Select your first and second test centre choices when you register. FP Canada will try to confirm your first location selection, but if there are no seats, you may get assigned to your second location choice.

Alternate in-person testing location

If the locations on the list don’t work for you, you can request an alternate location within Canada on your exam application, or by contacting us no later than two months before your exam date.

You’ll have to pay an alternate location fee in addition to the exam registration fee to cover any extra costs associated with the alternate location. FP Canada tries to arrange alternate locations as requested, but can’t guarantee all requests will be fulfilled. Alternate location fees are refunded if requests cannot be fulfilled.

FP Canada does not hold exams outside of Canada.

2. Online proctoring

If you register for online proctoring, you’ll receive an email from testingsupport@meazurelearning.com with instructions about how to access your exam account with Yardstick using your FP Canada ID.

You will use your Yardstick account on exam day to access your exam, so you must record and remember your password.

  • Neither FP Canada nor its testing partners will be able to provide you with your password information on exam day
  • If you forget your password on exam day, you must reset it using the email address you have on file with Yardstick, which means you must have access to your email account to reset your password. When resetting your password, remember the email address field is case sensitive
  • If you can’t access your Yardstick account on exam day, you will not be able to write your exam

Book your connection launch time

Once you’ve logged in, you can book your connection launch time. The time you choose is not your exam start time. It’s the time you’ll begin the connection process. Your exam will begin after the connection process is complete.

  • Select a time between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM ET
  • Connection times are in 10-minute increments
  • The times are displayed according to the 24-hour clock
  • Make sure you choose the time zone where you will be taking the exam

You can change your connection launch time until three weeks before your exam date by logging back onto the Yardstick platform.

Testing accommodations

FP Canada is committed to ensuring equitable access and participation for candidates writing the QAFP® exam or the CFP® exam, in accordance with provincial and federal human rights and accessibility legislation.

If you are registered for an FP Canada exam and have a disability or other accessibility need, and/or require adapted access to your exam, you can request a testing accommodation. FP Canada strives to satisfy all requests for accommodation.

Testing accommodations can include:

  • additional time to write the exam
  • special seating arrangements
  • adapted access to an in-person testing location
  • support for visually impaired candidates
  • food, drinks and medications that you need during the exam (for both in-person and online proctored exams)
    • request permission to have these items in the candidate writing area through the request process

To be considered for testing accommodations, you must submit:

  • the Testing Accommodation Request Form, completed in full and signed by you
  • supporting documentation from the appropriate health practitioner

You must send these documents to info@fpcanada.ca no later than two months before your exam date. FP Canada accepts requests until the close of registration but cannot guarantee that these requests will be reviewed or granted.

The request form allows you to provide a rationale for each accommodation you request, and provides information about what your rationale must include.

FP Canada requires a comprehensive physical, psychoeducational, and/or neuropsychological evaluation from a doctor and/or qualified health practitioner whose credentials are appropriate to diagnose and treat your disability or unique accessibility need.

Please note that a diagnosis for accommodations related to comprehension and processing of information is not sufficient by itself. Documentation of supporting testing is required.

This documentation must be current, (i.e., within the last five years), be printed on your healthcare provider's office letterhead and include the following in detail:

  • a clear diagnosis and a description of your medical or health issue
  • how this diagnosis affects your ability to take the exam under standard conditions
  • results of any assessments related to your request
  • specific details of the accommodations requested

There are additional requirements for submissions for accommodations related to a diagnosis that impacts comprehension and processing of information.

For these diagnoses, a family doctor is not the expected respondent. An appropriate respondent in these instances would be a specialist in mental health, such as a psychiatrist, or psychologist supported by a recent psychosocial or psychoeducational assessment (i.e., within the last five years).

FP Canada reviews and grants all accommodation requests on a case-by-case basis:

  • submitting a request does not guarantee it will be granted
  • if you do not include the required information, your request will be returned
  • reviews can take up to 30 days to complete
    • FP Canada cannot guarantee that requests received less than two months prior to the exam date will be assessed or granted
  • confidentiality of all submissions is maintained throughout the process

If your accommodations are granted, we will send you a letter to review and sign in agreement.

Request to withdraw from or postpone your exam

If you cannot attend the exam you registered for, you can withdraw your application and request a refund, or you can postpone your registration by the date listed.

  • You can postpone an exam only once per registration, and only to the next scheduled sitting of that exam
  • If you do not withdraw or postpone your registration, and you subsequently fail to appear for your exam, you have until one week after the exam to request a postponement or you will forfeit your exam fee
  • Exceptions to that deadline will be considered in the case of medical emergencies or for bereavement
  • Candidates who write the exam, or any part of it, are not eligible for a withdrawal or postponement of that registration

To withdraw or postpone, complete the Certification Examination Withdrawal / Postponement Request Form and submit it to info@fpcanada.ca within the stated timeframe. Contact us if you have any questions.
