The Joint Strategy Committee is comprised of members from the FP Canada™ Board of Directors and the Institute of Financial Planning Board of Directors.

The purpose of the Joint Strategy Committee is to:

  • share strategic discussions to the extent approved by each respective Board
  • take on selected joint governance matters
  • be responsible for other items as determined by each party's Board

A tax planning expert and enthusiastic volunteer, Aurèle Courcelles has played a valuable role in advancing FP Canada’s purpose and expanding adoption of Certified Financial Planner® professional standards over the course of his career. As Assistant Vice-President, Tax and Estate Planning at IG Wealth Management, Aurèle helps lead the team that supports the organization’s advisor network with complex financial planning issues. Aurèle has worked with IG Wealth Management’s compliance department to ensure that clients are receiving financial planning advice that’s appropriate, in their best interest and in line with the Standards of Professional Responsibility for CFP Professionals and QAFP Professionals. In these capacities, he has played a leading role in expanding acceptance of the CFP professional standards, as well as ensuring those standards are upheld and enforced.

Aurèle has volunteered extensively with FP Canada, as a member of the FPSC Level 1 Exam Panel for seven years, a member of the CFP Professional Competency Profile Task Force in 2016 and a member of the CFP Examination Blueprint Working Group in 2019. During his time on the Exam Panel, Aurèle used his tax expertise to ensure each exam question and case study was not only technically accurate, but also effective in assessing candidates’ financial planning knowledge.

Aurèle has also participated in many media interviews over the course of his career, with a goal of educating consumers on tax and financial planning issues. His widespread volunteer work also extends beyond the financial planning profession, including positions on the Board of Directors for various community organizations.
