Executive Leadership Team

Joan is the Executive Director of the Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning™. The Foundation funds, promotes and disseminates ground-breaking research to help financial planning professionals meet the increasingly complex needs of today’s clients.

Previously Joan was responsible for leading the FP Canada Institute in its mandate to elevate the practice of financial planning, overseeing education strategy and academic relations.  She led the build and rollout of the CFP Professional Education Program and QAFP Professional Education Program. She was instrumental in the development of the Canadian Financial Planning Definitions, Standards and Competencies, the definitive source of what to expect of individuals holding CFP certification, QAFP certification and the Pl. Fin. title across the country, the Projection Assumption Guidelines, which aid Financial Planners in making financial projections that are free from potential financial planner biases or predispositions and the Financial Planning Body of Knowledge (FP-BoK) which describes the knowledge expected of CFP professionals and QAFP Professionals.

Joan has more than 20 years of experience within the financial services industry in the areas of training and development and financial planning with RBC Dominion Securities, Royal Bank and CIBC Imperial Service. 

A CFP professional, Joan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy) degree from Concordia University and an MBA from York University. She also holds a Certificate in E-Learning from the University of Toronto and is a certified Canadian Training and Development Professional.
