FP Canada offers several options to complete your technical education towards QAFP certification.

You can purchase a full education program 'bundle' or individual courses.


QAFP Certification Technical Education Program

Includes the technical education you need for QAFP certification – all six Technical Education—Fundamentals courses plus the Technical Education—Fundamentals Final Assessment.

The QAFP Certification Technical Education—Fundamentals program  is eligible for the following continuing education (CE) credits:

MFDA

  • All six Technical Education—Fundamentals Courses: Professional Development – 150 CE credits

IIROC

  • All six Technical Education—Fundamentals Courses: Professional Development – 120 CE credits

QAFP Certification Program

Includes the technical and professional education you need for QAFP certification – all six Technical Education—Fundamentals courses plus the Technical Education—Fundamentals Final Assessment, and the QAFP Professional Education Program.

The program  is eligible for the following continuing education (CE) credits:

MFDA

  • All Technical Education—Fundamentals Courses: Professional Development – 150 CE credits
  • QAFP Professional Education Program: Business Conduct, Ethics - 8 CE credits; Professional Development - 17 CE credits

IIROC

  • All Technical Education—Fundamentals Courses: Professional Development – 120 CE credits
  • QAFP Professional Education Program: Compliance - 10 CE credits; Professional Development - 20 CE credits

Gain knowledge and skills

Master the fundamental principles of financial planning. Learn financial analysis including Time Value of Money calculations. Learn about credit and debt, and about planning for individuals with a disability, and for the costs of postsecondary education.

Total Hours: 50 Hours

Learn about insurance industry regulation and risk management. Understand life insurance and other types of insurance, as well as insurance coverage available through government benefit plans.

Total Hours: 25 Hours

Learn the foundations of family and estate law, and of business ownership structures. Understand personal property ownership, estate planning and administration, wills, Powers of Attorney and trusts.

Total Hours: 25 Hours

Learn the foundations of tax planning for individuals. Understand income tax assessment rules and enforcement, basic income for tax purposes, tax deductions and credits, and relationships under income tax, including income splitting and income attribution.

Total Hours: 35 Hours

Learn the foundations of retirement planning. Understand registered plans, including RRSPs, RRIFs, TFSAs, pensions and locked-in vehicles, and retirement benefits available through government plans, including CPP and OAS.

Total Hours: 50 Hours

Learn the fundamentals of investment planning. Study economics, investment industry regulation, and investment structures and accounts. Understand risk and return, investment objectives and constraints, buying and selling investments, and asset classes and asset allocation.

Total Hours: 50 Hours

The assessment tests your understanding of the required Technical Education for QAFP certification. It is an online proctored assessment.

Relevant professional qualifications path to QAFP certification

If you hold a relevant financial or other professional qualification (including CPA, CFA, FCIA, LLB/JD), you may be eligible to pursue an alternate path to QAFP certification.

Education exemptions for QAFP certification

QAFP certification students who hold certain other designations or licenses may apply for education exemptions from components of Technical Education—Fundamentals.
